East Bay Home Remodeling Cost Guide
What will it actually cost to remodel the house you're considering?
It's easy to walk through a home and start imagining the changes you'd make — open the kitchen to the living room, remodel the bathrooms, replace the flooring, add larger doors to the backyard, or rethink the layout altogether.
It's much harder to know what those changes will realistically cost.
Remodeling costs in the East Bay can vary significantly depending on the existing home, the scope of work, structural changes, permitting requirements and the level of finishes. A kitchen remodel that stays within the existing footprint is a very different project from one that removes walls, vaults ceilings, adds windows or doors, and continues new flooring and finishes into the surrounding spaces.
These local remodeling guides are designed to give you a more realistic starting point before you purchase a home or begin planning a renovation.

Buying a Home That Needs Work?
A house doesn't necessarily need more square footage to work better. Sometimes removing a wall, changing how rooms connect, relocating a kitchen or improving the relationship between the interior and backyard can completely change how a home functions.
Other times, what looks like a relatively simple change during a showing can involve structural engineering, new windows or doors, electrical and plumbing work, Title 24 requirements, or permitting.
If you're considering purchasing a home that needs significant remodeling, having a realistic understanding of the potential scope and budget can help you decide whether the house — and the renovation it needs — make sense for you.
A Real-Life Remodel in Moraga, CA
The Challenge
The homeowners thought they needed an addition to get the open kitchen and entertaining space they wanted. Instead, we reworked the existing layout — removing walls and using the square footage they already had more effectively.
The Results
The new layout created a large kitchen connected to the dining and living areas, with a vaulted ceiling that completely changed how the home feels. We added storage around the staircase, a walk-in pantry, and larger doors and windows to connect the house to the backyard.
In the end, the only additional square footage they needed was for the primary closet.
TestimonialWe had a fantastic experience working with Gita on our full home remodel. We were impressed by her space planning, design advice, and incredible attention to detail. She helped us rethink how we used our home and created a layout that feels open, functional, and completely suited to the way we live.
Gita is responsible, considerate, and efficient, and we genuinely enjoyed working with her throughout the process. We are thrilled with the results. Our home is beautiful, it reflects who we are, and we never want to leave!

Not Sure Which Budget Applies to Your Project?
Online remodeling averages aren't particularly helpful when you're trying to understand a specific East Bay home. The cost of renovating a 1970s rancher in Moraga can be very different from remodeling a hillside property in Orinda or making major layout changes to an older Lafayette home.
If you're considering a significant remodel and aren't sure where your project fits within these guides, get in touch and tell us a little about the house and what you're hoping to change.
